Rob Schaaf. A prescription for better government.
I don't mind when true facts about me or what I have done are given. But to
twist my words and make up "facts" is shameful, and precisely what my
opponent did in the Tuesday, July 20, 2010 issue of the St. Joseph
News-Press
When President Obama issued an executive order that federal prosecutors file
charges only against those caught using marijuana for medical purposes in
states (like Missouri) that do not have a medical marijuana law, while
ignoring offenders in other states, the even application of our federal law
was subverted, and I find that intolerable. So I cosponsored Rep. Meiner's
medical marijuana bill in order to help give the issue the debate it
deserved. It was never referred to committee. When she tried to amend her
law onto another bill without proper committee study, I had to vote against
it. I did not "embrace" medical marijuana, but I believe the issue deserves
study, as many cancer patients would benefit greatly from it. I do embrace
even application of our laws among the states.
A year ago, I was asked to participate in a national TV ad to counter the
sickening charge by leading democrats that those who oppose ObamaCare are
racist. I stepped forward, along with thirty other patriots, and declared
in the ad that if being opposed to ObamaCare makes a person racist, then "I
guess I'm racist". I did not call myself a racist, and for my opponent to
play the race card by twisting the ad's meaning is shameful.
It was my bill that took mercury out of vaccines at a time when mercury was
feared to be a cause of autism. This year, I offered an amendment that
would have eventually covered all children with autism instead of only the
27% that the autism bill (which I voted for) helped. I am one of the
fiercest advocates for autistic children, and the statement that I "attacked
children with autism" is especially shameful.
My opponent has twisted the truth by making these accusations, and I hope
voters can see through his deception.

My campaign strategy is simple--work hard, tell the truth, and put the best interests of my constituents before those of special interests.
As a State Representative, I have a proven record of fighting for Missourians. I sponsored legislation to enact market based reforms so that health care, like every other item on the market, can come down in price as a result of fair competition.
Since I have been in office, we have increased funding for education and created a new foundation funding formula to ensure that schools have the resources they need to give our children a quality education. As a family physician, I value the gift of life, and I oppose abortion—especially late term abortions. I have voted against abortion at every opportunity. I also voted to protect our Second Amendment rights, and our Republican Legislature has always turned back tax increases.
